This is one of the prototypes of a manipulatable special forces knife. Our review panel decided the handle was not wide enough at the hilt to prevent a hand from riding forward (and getting cut) in all combat situations so we reclassified it as a kitchen knife and marked the price down. It's still a great shop-made knife, just not for military use. The high quality Böhler D2 Carbon Tool Steel takes a fine edge and holds it for a long time (the downside is you need a diamond or saphire hone to resharpen it). D2 is regarded as the best carbon steel for knives, and is very corrosion resistant for a carbon steel. We have two of these, this one and one with a slightly different thumb gimping coverage. We are only showing pics of this one now to avoid confusion.
